Recent I-40 experience Memphis to Barstow?

I sometimes do Alabama to SoCal once a month. On I-20/I-8 or I-10.

The last time I did I-40 (3 years ago) I promised myself to never do that again. Most of Arkansas was under construction, and all of Oklahoma needed to be.

Anyone run that route recently?

Its good. There is a five mile secion around Ft. Smith under construction, other than that I like. I live in south Alabama and go to OK City, pretty often.

Kingman to Flagstaff has a lot of bad sections. There is construction between Needles and Barstow.

Thanks, am sitting tonight at Redstone looking at weather, winds, and fuel prices on both routes west. Is still a toss-up.

I found the section just before Little Rock, westbound was pretty bad in November last year. They recommended a parallel route, but it was worse. Got back on 40 at next opportunity. Seems like there was a lot of road-work passing through OKC too. It's all doable though.

Enroute as we speak.

Left Redstone Thursday late morning. Thru Memphis via Corinth late afternoon. Pulled into a Love's in Russellville, AR last night. Today, just pulled into the KOA in Canute, OK; got tired of fighting the crosswinds.

So far, I-40 has gotten a pretty good grade. OKC and west for 40 miles is as I remember it. Bone jarring expansion joints and potholes. Mid-city OKC is finally open, but still with confusing signage, the GPS is even confused.

Arkansas is finally getting ahead on their portion, it was new and razor smooth.

We hope to be mid-NM tomorrow night; will update.

Hang on to your teeth once you get west of Williams AZ!! And if you see Governor Brown in California... ask him what he did with the federal highway funds... because he sure didn't spend any on I-40!!

West of Williams all the way to Kingman.

We left I-40 at Kingman. Got tired of the bone-jarring, pothole infested lanes.

Went to Vegas, has an incredible stay at Sam's Town.

Worst road we have ever been on (I-40).

Gonna wait another 5 years again for I-40.

Am in Ventura for a couple of weeks, then Pismo.
