Red Lodge Mt to Cody Wy/ Cody to Buffalo Wy

Need help on best rt. for 40' towing 25' enclosed trailer (all the toys). We have made it from Fl. with only a few mild heart attacks...just kidding..has been great but now I'm thinking we should go back to 90 from Red Lodge instead of 308 to 120. From Cody 120 to 16 to Buffalo any advise?

Really the best route is MT 308 to WY 72. It's 63 mi. I'm not sure how you'd do it using I-90, it goes way out of the way.

From Cody, go E on US 14 to Greybull, S on US 20 to Worland, US 16 to Buffalo. You will go through the Bighorn Mtns, but it's a much better road than US 14. You will go over Powder River Pass, but it's well maintained, passing lanes on upgrades, and much to see.

As on any climbing, pay attention to temperature and downshift to keep engine in it's best torque range. Don't worry MPH, a slightly higher RPM means cooler engine and less lugging. Stop and take pictures, stay relaxed!

If you made it from Florida to Red Lodge, MT you'll have no problem with 308.

It's just about straight. It's a good two-lane with minimal traffic. One hour and it will be over!

MT72 from Belfry to WY120 is about the same. We also like Hwy 16 to get to Buffalo. Drove it a few times with a 40' motorhome pulling the Jeep.
