Reno, NV to Petaluma, CA

In late June we will travel from Reno, NV to Petaluma, CA. Computer route is I-80 to CA Hwy 37 (Exit 33 North of Vallejo) to US101 then North to Petaluma.
Is this the best route?
Older post indicate construction around Donner Pass. Still going on? What should I be aware of in this area.
Is there a rush hour in the North San Francisco area I should try to avoid?

The route is the easiest...37 is mostly wide two lane. #7 is also heavy commute after 3 PM in the direction you will be heading as is 101 heading to Petaluma. Try to arrive before commute time. No knowledge about road work.

All good. Only time you want to avoid Donner is when there is ANY threat of snow. You're gonna hit traffic no matter....it's CA, but if you live in Reno, no worse than that 395/80 interchange...that thing SUCKS!!!

When you're on Hwy 37, just about 2 miles past the junction with Hwy 121, take a right on Lakeview Highway. It will then become Hwy 116 and bring you into Petaluma. It's a good highway, and keeps you out of the traffic on Hwy 101 from Novato to Petaluma.

Thanks to all of you for your input. It is useful. Can't wait to get started. God willing and the creek don't rise we will be on the road for three month.
