Required to stop at weigh stations?
I'm uncertain about whether to pull off at ports of entry/weigh stations.
In our previous 37' Class A diesel pusher, I never pulled into weigh stations. (We did not tow anything behind that coach.) Never was chased down by a trooper.
Our new coach is 40' and we're dinghy towing. Do I need to pull into weigh stations?

No ... unless you are also a Commercial Vehicle.

Many many years ago I pulled into one........
Staff looked out the window at me like a tree full of owls.
One of them yelled "Git-------go on!"
I NEVER stopped again

Unless there is a sign that says specifics "RVs must stop", don't. Even when the sign says "All vehicles over 5 tons", they usually mean commercial vehicles over 5 tons. I don't know anyone that's been chased down for passing a weigh station in a motorhome.

Not in California. In fact, if you do stop at the scales, they won't be very happy with you. Commercial vehicles only.

Commercial vehicles only. If they want you they will come & get you down the road.

Depends on the state. Use this as an example.
Massachusetts
The following vehicles must stop: (1) agricultural vehicles; (2) passenger or specialty vehicles, either single or in combination (towing a trailer) with GVWR of 10,000 lbs. or more; (3) commercial trucks with GVWR of 10,000 lbs. or more.

Interesting. When we have traveled there we have never stopped and never been chased down.

A a newbie, I find it interesting that "you're asking for trouble" if you do stop. Why wouldn't they just wave you on? If they do talk to you, why can't you just explain that it's your first time and honestly didn't know. It's not like they are going to arrest you for being an idiot!
There's also another interesting side of this question. If you're towing a larger trailer or FW that weighs over 10,000lbs, how is that any different than commercial vehicle that weighs the same? Do they not have the same impact on the roads and could be over loaded? I realize there's more to a weigh station but that's a big part of it.

Where does it say that? I know that may be the case but the guideline says "passenger or specialty vehicles, either single or in combination (towing a trailer) with GVWR of 10,000 lbs. or more". If you have a passenger (non-commercial) vehicle that weighs more than 10,000lbs, it looks like you have to stop.
I just don't understand why they wouldn't wave you on if you didn't need to stop.
