Rest Area or Truck Stop along 84 in NY or CT

WE have structured our trip to Florida following the directions of list members. We are planning to leave very early the first day to make it to Mohegan Sun in PA by a reasonable time and to avoid the morning rush hour in the Boston area.

There are no open campgrounds along this route.

On our way home it is a little different. We are planning to stay at the Pine Grove campground well recommended by a fellow list member. After that it is about 375 to our home just outside of Boston. We would like to stop somewhere for a rest on 84 in CT as we do not want to face the rush hour on 95/128 in MA on our way home. We have to leave the MA Pike at 95 as we cannot go through any of the Boston tunnels with propane in our tanks.

We have All stays but would appreciate the personal experience of any of you who may have stayed at a rest area or truck stop along this route. The Walmarts along this route do not seem RV friendly and am not sure about the Cracker barrels.

As always many thanks for your suggestions,

I've stayed in Connecticut Rest Areas on I-84. They allow overnight RV parking and 3 of the 4 have free dump stations.

I live in CT and can recommend the rest areas as well. The best one is the one farthest east on 84, just prior to the MA state line. The one just after Waterbury, in Southington is also a good one, set back from the highway. There's an area RV's can park (no trucks there) in that Southington one as well. The first one right over the line near Danbury is OK, but I think it's busy and smaller so traffic may be more bothersome.

Good luck on your trip and hope it goes well for you!

There's a Walmart that anchors a strip mall on Newtown Rd in Danbury, just at Exit 8, that allows RV overnights. I always check by phone in advance. However, when we arrived we found that their parking lot is rather small compared to other Walmarts, and it was crowded, as the store remains open 'til 11PM.

However, we went up to the other (west) end of the strip mall where there is a Staples and also a few other business oriented stores that all seem to close earlier. I spoke to the manager of the Staples, and she had no problem with us parking by her store, as long as we didn't impede anything. We spent the night with no hassles. This was November 15, of '14, just six weeks ago.
