No problem on I-5 in NORCAL. Stockton has construction. Typical traffic hours through Sacramento.

This is true but the roads do have a lot of big holes. I travel it monthly and drive in the left lane. Less holes but a lot of one finger waves.

You show a toad in your signature block, so assuming you are in fact towing, by driving in the left lane you're doing one of two things, both wrong. You're obeying the 55 mph speed limit holding up traffic. Or you're doing the posted speed limit for vehicles not towing and breaking the law.
In either case it won't be long before you receive a visit from a CHP officer.

Yup.

Trip check for Oregon highways.
NOAA weather for Siskiyou Summit
We have been precipitation free for the last several days but has been cold at night. In the upper 20s at lower elevation and teens in higher. More precipitation headed our way starting tomorrow night. Snow at first then switching to rain even at pass levels early in the week then back to snow/rain mix at pass level later in the week.
Watch the weather, trip check and pick your time. Hang out in Redding or Medford depending on the direction you are heading and wait for the weather window. Lots of motorhomes are moving during the winter when conditions are right.

Weather in southern Oregon is pretty good now - cold but dry. You can find a lot of road cameras and other information on this site" One Stop Shop for Traveler Information

Thanks for the helpful links. Planning on leaving Tuesday am and overnighting in Merced, then driving the next day to our destination, Eagle Point. Looks like the worst part of the drive is the Siskiyou pass with a 6% grade and winding turns. Anyone familiar with this stretch of road?
I've driven Cajon Pass, Tejon Pass, Canejo grade, Caochella Pass, Baker Grade and the climb from Sacramento to Truckee with little problem. How does Siskiyou compare?

Siskiyou Pass is really not that big of a deal. When headed north be careful on the downhill. The curves just keep coming at you and their is a center concrete barrier. Downhill headed south really a piece of cake. The climb in either direction not much in comparison to southbound Tejon which seems almost vertical at first. Wednesday looks like a good day to cross the pass with weather calling for chance of rain. I would plan on starting early and getting over the pass before sunset. The weather changes to chance of snow/rain for Wednesday night. I am paying close attention because I am headed the other direction the following week. Safe travels!

We recently drove the 5 from San Diego to Seattle...short trip north and south just 3 days later for a wedding.
The road surface north of Stockton is much better than central and southern CA. And there is major projects in the CA central valley where CalTrans is replacing big sections (milling and replacing the roadway), where you will be driving on the opposing direction lanes.
It's great they are working on the 5...but for right now, it is really rough in several places.
Safe travels

How many days to you take to drive from SD to Seattle. Regardless you must be tough with a turn around in three days.
The milling work on I-5 was much more in control this fall than last June when they were leaving huge drop offs and height differences between lanes. There was a drop off near Avenal that would scare the daylights out of anyone. I couldn't understand why the first CHIPs officer by wouldn't have gotten someone there with a warning sign. Apparently Caltrans got the attention of the contractor doing the work and while still rough in November it seemed much less so.

Freezing Rain advisor tonight through 10AM tomorrow
In case anyone who is monitoring this thread was planning on traveling through Southern Oregon tonight or tomorrow morning you need to be aware this was just released.

RESULT IN ACCUMULATING FREEZING RAIN FOR MANY AREAS. SURFACES MAY
BECOME VERY SLICK...RESULTING IN HAZARDOUS DRIVING AND EVEN
WALKING CONDITIONS.
