We are soon leaving on an extended trip in our WB View with a toad. Part of that trip will include the Icefield Parkway in Alberta, Canada. We have driven this road before, although not in an RV and it has been several years.

My question concerns frequency of pull outs. We tend to be slow travelers and try to be considerate of others. We utilize pull outs to allow other motorists to pass, but not all pull outs can accommodate our rig or sometimes the transition is too abrupt.

Can anyone with recent experience on this section of road put our fears to rest or tell me they are well founded? Our option is to leave the MH in Banff and just use the car for a couple days.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

I doubt anyone speeds on that road. It's too beautiful not to leisurely enjoy it. Besides, it's patrolled. You're not going to be the only RVers out there. Why not stay at Banff a few days then to Lake Louise and finally to Jasper? Explore the surrounding areas of each rather to cram it all from one spot. That would be a long day trip and how often would you want to drive it? We would move along. Good luck!

I agree with Twogypsies on the 2-2-2 scenario. As for speeding, I too am a slow poke. I was going the posted speed limit last September and was passed by everything on the road, including tour busses.

It is such a long drive, I would consider another 2 day stop at the midpoint along the Ice a Fields Parkway. This gives you even more time to explore and enjoy.

We've driven it northbound each year for the past 2 years. In 2014 we drove it in our truck camper at a leisurely pace spending 2 days at Banff, and 1 overnight at Lake Louise. In 2015 we drove it in a 31 foot Class A towing a Ford Focus on a dolly. In both cases we drove as we wanted- at a pace reasonable to enjoy the sights and to stop and see what we wanted. We had absolutely no problems and all but wore out our digital camera at our stops along the way!

Can't wait to do it again soon!

just drove it 2weeks ago.got stuck twice behind gawker's that would not use the turn outs or do the speed limit that is very reasonable for conditions. one had about a dozen vehicles behind them. there are plenty of place to pull over and let the ones that are not gawking by as this is a major highway beside a wonderful tourist destination

Thanks to all for the responses. I did not mean to imply that we are going to rush the trip. We figure on being on the parkway for about a week total. Couple days in Banff, couple days in Lake Louise and a turn around in Jasper. Time is not an issue for us as we are both retired and will be on the road most of the summer. My concern was for other motorists. We drove this road several years ago on the way to Alaska, but we were in our pickup and pullouts were not a consideration or concern and I didn't pay much attention to them.

You have put my concerns to rest and I thank everyone for their input.
