route 1 in CA between eureka and golden gate bridge
Coming down along 101 from Oregon. At Eureka, the road splits - 101 at the east and SR-1 along the shore at west. Needless to say, SR-1 is more scenic. Has anyone had gone through this route? will 40' with a small toad run through ok? Tia.

Did you do a search for posts on that route?
I'm sure there have been some horror stories on that section , from passengers point of view in particular.

thanks for reminding the search function i just did, but didn't get the threads about the condition of the section of route 1. i remember from LA to San Francisco #1 is bad for large rvs, i don't remember i have ever read any comments on north of San Francisco. Oh well, will dig more.

My suggestion and everyone else (I think) will be NOT to take a 40 foot RV down or up CA 1 in Northern CA. I have driven it in auto and that is OK but not a large rig. Leave the RV somewhere on 101 and drive the tow car over to Ft Bragg or other places on HWY 1.
I've driven 1 in southern CA with a large motorhome and it would be a easy trip compared to the parts north of San Francisco. Just my opinion but I wouldn't do it.

I wouldnt, just as overall length has nothing to do with pin to axle length. Its been along time ago but i towed my 35ft fifth wheel with another trailer behind it on Hwy 1 without issue and will be taking my mh towing my pickup there this year.

Read it, you are correct, I like to see things in black and white, and it says it there, thanks for taking the time to look it up

thanks nick for clarifying the length. i am afraid of the road conditions, ie narrow lanes, switch backs, and tree branches, etc.
