For much of it's length, US 23 is a 4 lane, sometimes divided, highway. It gives the impression of a limited access highway but with the thrill of turning vehicles, stop lights, and vehicles pulling on to the road in front of you. In Ohio you get to see Toledo, Upper Sandusky, Columbus, Chillicothe, and Portsmouth all close up and personal in multiple stop lights. In Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina you get lots of curving highway and small towns until Asheville. It does turn in to an interstate highway at the Virginia/Tennessee border, what you lose in turning cars you pick up on curving freeway.
