Route 9 Brattleboro to Bennington, VT

Sitting here on 91 South near Brattleboro in Vermont , need to cross over to NY, heading for southeastern PA. Scranton area.

Question: just what should I expect if I take route 9 west in Vermont from Brattleboro to. Bennington? Is the road good .....and the mountain directory shows it as a steep climb and DW is afraid to go. Only other option is to take 91 south to 84 west.

Any thoughts or suggestions? Will head out tomorrow morning so any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

Having traveled that route many times when I lived in Bennington, I offer this. Route 9 is a pretty ride over a VT two lane road, with lots of curves and some steep grades up and back down. Add to that that the route takes you through Bennington and getting to the Albany area to head south is over more two lane roads. My personal choice with my RV would be to take 91 south until you reach Meriden, CT, which is south of Hartford. Take 691 west to connect to 84 - you will miss the most of Hartford traffic and some of the worst part of 84.
Travel safe. (We will be at the KOA in Putney, right off of 91, tomorrow).

Thanks demoon for that reply! That is the way I will go today.
I heard from the locals around here that the Brattleboro bridge is under construction and going I 91 south, the traffic can back up for miles! I will take 5 South till I get around that area then jump back on 91 and head to Meriden.

Safe travels to you too. Not too many nice campgrounds around here. We stayed at Hidden Acres right up the road from KOA, nothing to brag about except for $21.80 Passport America we stayed 2 nights to let the rain pass.

I drove 9 many times when I lived in Brattleboro and as was said scenic drive. On the down hill side are areas that tractor trailers use as braking lanes that they can stop when the brakes fail.
