Route 97 N to WA

Planning an April trip in our Class A from N Calif to SE Wash, Kennewick/Pasco area. Considering taking Rt 97 N at Weed, Ca. then 84/395. Has anyone taken this route before, and could you advise as to general road condition. We're pulling our van on a car dolly, and although it has electric brakes, the main concern is the strain on engine and transmission on long uphill climbs and of coarse brakes on steep downhill grades. The map shows it to be mostly high desert, and the road looks pretty straight, but looks on a map can be deceiving, and there is no substitute for experience. Any information regarding this route would be very much appreciated.

It is a main highway, which means even heave trucks use it, so of course your rig is fine. The only portion that would ba a little bit steep is the drop into the gorge.

Thanks Ed:
Can't stand listening to my rig at 3500 rpm going uphill without thinking the worst. And of coarse thoughts of a run-away rig on a 7 % downhill grade is not any fun either. I appreciate the info.

If you have the V-10, long climbs at 3500 RPM are normal. The engine is designed for it. Since I was an engineer in the motor-cycle industry for a while, I find 3500 to be real slow after riding bikes with a 12,000 rpm red-line and about 7,000 at typical cruise speed!

Thanks Frank. No its the 460 CID V8 with Banks Power System. Maybe I'm just being a worry wart. If I didn't have a tow dolly with a 3600 lb van on it I probably wouldn't give long climbs and downhill grades a second thought.
