Need some route advice for summer trip from Gettysburg VA to Mystic CT on to Dennis Port MA. Would like to avoid congested city driving.

I looked on my map program and no Gettysburg in VA. PA is where the battlefield is. Typo maybe?

Well, ...... I guess it would be US 15 to I-83N to I-81N to I-78E to I-287N to I-95. Then, it looks like I-95 to Providence and east on I-195 to I-495 and out to the Cape.

A little longer but tons less traffic: take 15 north to I-81 north to Scranton Pa...go east on I-84 to I-691 east in Connecticut to Route 66 east though Middletown Ct. Take Route 9 south to I-95 north to Mystic. From there, the Cape is a snap.

One little thing - 84 from Scranton to 691 is in pretty bad shape, unless they made an awful lot od improvements in the last year. That being said, we are doing that same route in reverse in May - slowly.

As the OP wrote. I-287 isn't too bad and is a few less miles, but for the least traffic, I-84 is the way.
