Route Advice from Calgary to Kalispell, MT

We have several options to get from Calgary, AB to Montana. We'd like to drive down the west side of Glacier National Park instead of the east side, which we've already seen.

We're thinking of driving down HWY 2 a short way to HWY 22, then taking HWY 3 west through Crowsnest Pass and Sparwood.....then down 93 into Kalispell, MT. We pull a 40 ft. Redwood and are wondering how 'do-able' this pass is. How would you characterize this route for towing? Thanks for any help!

Do a search for: Mountain Directory. I use to have their books 1 Eastern US, 1 Western US. It appears they have app now too. I like them.

Crowsnest shouldn't be an issue, we drove Edmonton to Spokane last year in a 1990 motorhome, I don't remember any difficulties, nowhere near as steep as Rogers Pass and the Coquihalla.

I can't speak to the 93 south though, sorry.

We live near Kalispell. No problem with your proposed route, but you will not be near Glacier. If you plan to camp in the park, you will have a hard time with getting a site for a 40 footer this time of year. There are several nice commercial parks nearby. If you are just looking for nice scenery, consider adding a few miles to your route by taking the road from Eureka to Libby along Koocanusa and then Hwy 2 east to Kalispell. Good road all the way if you are comfortable with 2 lane.

Much faster to just drop straight down from Calgary to Hwy 2 at Shelby then take it west to West Glacier. The pass on Hwy 2 is no problem. There is a nice, seldom used FS campground at the summit.

Enjoy your visit.
