Route for central Ohio to Traverse City Michgan

Heading up to Traverse City for a week from Central Ohio (Columbus area).

GPS has us switching back and forth as we work our way up Michigan and West toward Traverse City.

Is there a preferred route for heading up that direction?

We're in a 38 foot coach dragging a Wrangler Unlimited, about 58 feet in all.

Would prefer to bypass Toledo and Detroit even if that's a longer drive.

We will stop along the way to smell the coffee but plan to do the trip in a single day.

Thanks for any suggestions

Roll

Not a good way to go from there. We are leaving from Il in a week or so and headed to Traverse City by way of Cadillac, Mi. Where are you staying when you get to T C. Have a safe trip!

We might have some overlap. We made reservations for a place new to us called Indigo Bluffs Indigo Bluffs RV Retreat with an Empire MI mailing address. I think it's about 25 minutes west of TC. We are there from the 14th through the 20th Sept., leaving on the 21st to return home.

No straight route, that was my take on it too.

We're not in a hurry so I guess this will be leisurely cruise.

If you see a Coachmen dragging a burgundy 4 door Jeep, give us a shout Gary.

I live in Cincinnati and used to live in TC. I suggest taking 75 to 675/23 in Toledo. (We have also taken 68 up and connected to 75 at Findlay at the big Pioneer sugar silo) It is really not a bad section for Toledo. Then stay on 23 until it comes back to 75 right around Flint. At Bay City you can either take 10 and cut across to 115 to cut across all the way to Empire or pick up 131 or 37 into Traverse City. Or you can take 75 all the way up to 72 and cut across to Traverse City that way.

By taking 23 you will cut out all of Detroit and just hit the suburbs of Toledo.

Also. Not an issue with a one day trip. We can make it to TC in 8 hours. You are further north than us so, even though you probably won't be going 70 mph to save gas, you can do the trip easy in one day. Watch for the speed traps around Brighton.

You may want to take US127 up thru Lansing and then exit on US10 W toward Ludington. From there you will hit Route US31 which will take you to Traverse City.

Or take the 80/90 Turnipike and catch Route US31 out of Indiana and take it North to Traverse. Plenty of ways to go.

Or take US23N up thru Ann Arbor to Brighton then W on I-96 to Lansing. Take US127N up to US10W as is the 1st paragraph.

We also have a 38' coach and drag the pt but being from Traverse there's a few other ways but plenty confusing if you don't know where your going. If you get into town stop by the Mackinaw Brew Pub and say hello to Marco the bartender. He's my brother-in-law.

Good Luck and have a great time.

Steve

Just curious, Roll. How did you like your trip and which way did you go?

X2!. We used to Ski a lot in Michigan, and this is absolutely the best route.

Piece of cake! catch I-475 around East side of Toledo to Us-23 to I-96 West to US-131 at Grand Rapids. Good road all the way.
