Is there an alternative besides going I40 to Nashville and I-75 to Marietta?
Does not look like it but never know from experts here.
Just need to get there and not interested in scenery.

I40 to I75 is the quickest. You can go Hwy 78 to Birmingham to I20 to Atlanta then to I75 north to Marietta. Hwy is 4 lane all the way but slower. Driven both ways many times over the last 20 years.

US-78 east from Memphis down thru Tupelo MS to Birmingham AL. Then I-20 to I-285 in Atlanta. About 40-50 miles shorter, and no Monteagle.

BZam, I agree on the I-40/I-75 route. However, you mentioned Nashville as though they connect there which is incorrect. They connect just east of Knoxville which is 170-180 miles east of Nashville on I-40, Ken...

That's 20 miles west of Knoxville.
I think the route they are talking about is I-40 to Nashville, I-24 to Chattanooga, and I-75 to Marietta. It would be way out of the way to go to Knoxville to pick-up I-75.
Google, Yahoo, & Map Quest, all show the US 78 to Birmingham, I-20 to Atlanta and I-75 north to Marietta (400 miles) as the fastest route. I have not driven it.
