We are leaving for Hilton Head SC next week and plan on taking the subject route. Is the route somewhat motorhome friendly and are there any areas we should be concerned about?

Ron,

I've done the I-77 (south of I-81) and the I-26 sections (west of I-95) of your route in a Class C and a Class A with no major problems.

Hopefully someone has done the Rt. 19 section and can fill you in as that's the only non-Interstate section of your trip.

I've done this route many times. Other than the usual road construction some thing you might want to consider are:

1. Fog - One 81 through PA in the early morning hours. The fog, in the central part of the state, South of Wilkes-Barre and North of the split with I78 is the area where fog can be brutal.

2. Any of the cities along the route can be difficult during their comuter rush time.

3. In Southern VA, on I77 be prepared for a 6 mile 6% down hill cruise. It's an easy decent if you are ready with your down shifting and or engine brake. At the bottom of the mountain you will cross into North Carolina.

4. Speed limits change with each state.

I take this route whenever traversing the East coast. There are many CGs to choose from, along the way.

We are going that way at the end of the month. Do it twice a year, much better than I95, altough it can be busy from Harrisburg to Roanaoke. Will you be in HH then? We stay at the Hilton Head Harbour.
