Route Suggestions: Bradenton, FL to Tallahassee

Hi Everyone,

Advice would be appreciated. Not sure if we should plan to take Highway 589/98/19 or Interstate 75. There are only about 25 miles difference, per google maps. I'm a bit tired of the truck traffic on the interstates here in the eastern part of the US, so I'm leaning toward NON-interstate for that part of the trip. But, I have no idea about the condition of the highway, traffic flow, and the difference in terms of time.

Many thanks!

Those two routes are about the same amount of time. Going to Tally I usually like to go 19, more scenic and less interstate shenanigans. 589 is toll so having a Sunpass helps, 4 or 5 toll stops all the way up I believe, but its very fast and open going up. 19 you end up going slow through small towns all the way up, nice to break up drive though. Crystal River can be a little busy not to bad.

Come up the Suncoast Parkway to US 98, jog west over to US 19. US 19 is a peaceful somewhat boring four-lane drive featuring lots of pine trees once you get past Crystal River. You might not even see a truck before you get to Perry. <g>

Approaching Tallahassee, for the south side I'd take US 98 west at Perry then go up SR 363; for the east side continue past Perry on US 19/27 and take US 27 into town, and for the north side head north on US 19 and go west on I-10.

Absolutely do not get into downtown Tallahassee. Streets are really tight and traffic is thick.
