Does anyone have info on traveling up BIA Road 12 and back down BIA Road 64 as an alternate Route to Canyon de Chelly?

We drove part of BIA-64 when we visited Canyon de Chelly NM (it's one of the scenic view routes within the park). The portion that we drove was a good two-lane road. When we left Canyon de Chelly, we drove BIA-59 from Many Farms up to its junction with US-160 and found that to be a good road, so we'd have no hesitation in traveling on BIA-12 even tho' we've never driven it before.

In 2007 we took our DP with toad from Shiprock, MN to Canyon DeChelley via route 13. This took us over Chuska Pass, good road but very steep with numerous switchbacks. Much of the road was 10-14% grade. It was doable but I wouldn't do it again with the motor home. We connected with route 12 north of Canyon DeChelley, it was a good road. We camped at the park CG, make sure you spend some time at Spider Rock Overlook.
