routing help

Please advise best route from Rapid City SD to Cheyenne Wy. Would like the most direct but easy driving route. Interested in hearing how the limited access roads are, are they mountainous?

Thanks,
Joel

Did the top section (Rapid City to Hot Springs) and bottom section (I-25) with no issues. Big mountains don't start until you get further west in WY.

Google maps shows that as the shortest route but gives you two other options.

Suggested routes
297 mi, 4 hours 48 mins
US-18 W and I-25 S

289 mi, 4 hours 52 mins
US-18 W and US-85 S

295 mi, 4 hours 53 mins
NE-71 S

My favorite route from Rapid City to Cheyenne is

South on SD-79 to near Hot Springs

West and South West on US-18 through Lusk, WY to near Douglas

South on I-25 to Cheyenne

There are essentially no hills on this route ... most is 4 lanes ... and the 2 lane road is good as well.

AB Campground is our favorite place to stay in Cheyenne ... call ahead because quite often they are full ...
