That's the way I always go. It may take little longer than I 95, but it's a nicer ride.
There's some traffic in LaPlata and Waldorf, but it sure beats DC and Balt.

I tried 301 once and there were a bunch of lights.
I prefer to take Rt.17 out of Fredricksburg, up to I66 and then over to I81 which leads you to I78.
That way, you also bypass Philly.
From I78, you can take 287 and bypass NYC too!

That won't work for those of us going the Delaware area, but if I was headed to New England, that's the way I'd go.

Ahh, Delaware. I missed that critical piece of the question!

I'm with Dirk ...excellent route to drive. We went that way up and back many times when we lived in Hampton VA. Sometimes to Delaware, and sometime to visit daughter in both Phily and in NY ...MH, car, SUV & trailer, although we lived in DC too, we would not go through DC and Baltimore unless we absolutely had to!!

Ouch!
I know we're small and easy to miss, but it's home.
I'll be heading back to DE from FL in a few weeks.

Rallies on the way home
Hey Route66 or others if you would like to hook up with some folks on your way north! Check out the two rallies under the South East section on this forum! I am going to the one at Stone Mnt, GA, but both groups of folks are great to camp with !!

The state of Md recently increased many tolls. The 301 bridge near Dahlgren is actually less expensive to cross with Moho separate from toad - go figure. My guess is they were targeting big rigs with that bright idea.
The wickedest witch from slower lower Delaware.

That is actually quite typical of toll bridges and roads ...cheaper if you stop and disconnect the toad and drive past the toll booth with both paying separately, then stop on the other side and re-attach. There are some RVers who do that !! ...maybe if I traveled in toll areas much I might be tempted ...

Wicked witch: Why don't you just sit in the car and have the other half tell the toll taker he is covering the cost of both!
Solves 2 problems, lower toll and a quieter ride for the MH driver! HE HE

Hugs and such Baby Bear!! I can't do as you suggest because BOB the big old bus is MY baby and I do ALL the driving. But I'd love to put DH in the HHR and have a silent navigator.......may just try that next week enroute to Quantico!!!!
Have a safe trip north - do you leave soon?
The wickedest witch from slower, lower DELAWARE - Route 66 we gave northern DE back to PA; didn't you get that memo?

That'll be the day.
Us single RVers, have found that it takes too long to unhook and drive two vehicles through the toll booth and then hook up again.
