We're heading West next week. Streets and Trips wants me to exit I-64 W near Charleston, WV and take route 35 thru Gallipolis, OH to Dayton, then W on I-70. This seems like a more direct route than I-64 to Louisville, then I-65 to Indianapolis.

Anyone have any feedback about the quality of Rt. 35 thru that area?

SMIRANGER: It has been several years since I was on Rt 35, but it was a good road and will easily handle a MH. Also; it is a very pleasant drive across there.

I just came through that route two weeks ago. Very nice four lane except in Dayton. There is about five miles in Dayton that is under major construction and very rough tight lanes.
Watch your speed, they watch the road closely between Galipolis and Indiana line.
I drive it regulary.

It depends on if you prefer interstate or mostly 4 lane divided highway with about a 30 mile stretch where it's 2-lane. Between Charleston, WV & Indianapolis, IN you'd save only about 45 miles going the 35 route. I can speak for part of the way, at least. Don't get on 35 at Nitro. I'd stay on I-64 to the Winfield exit & take 34 to 35. Between Winfield & Point Pleasant, WV, 35 follows the river. It's 2-lane & is heavy with semi-truck traffic. From Point Pleasant WV to Chillicothe, OH it's all 4-lane divided highway. If you take this route, watch your speed around the Jackson, OH area as it's easy to pick up speed on the downhills there & the OH troopers will be happy to give you a ticket.

I don't know about 35 between Chillicothe & Dayton, OH (except for a few mile section in Dayton where they're doing MAJOR construction & lanes are narrow), but from Google maps, it looks to be all 4-lane divided highway there, too.

Hi smlranger,

I was on 35 from US 64 just west of Charleston, WV all the way into Dayton in early July. From 64 to Point Pleasant, WV (state line with Oh) it's two lanes but comfortable and scenic. There was a lot of semi-truck traffic headed south. On the Ohio side it was a perfectly acceptable 4 lane road all the way to Dayton.
If you need to stay anywhere while your on that road there is a county fair ground in Gallipolis with full hook-ups for under $20 a night. Finally, When I stayed at the fair ground I learned the proper pronounceation of Gallipolis is: (Galla-police). Have Fun
