Rv parks around Sacramento

We are planning our winter trip from BC to AZ. We will stay in Wash. one night then on to the Seven Feathers at Canyonville OR. the second night. From there we want to end up close to Sacramento and stay for a few days and do day trips to see the area. Is San Francisco doable from this area. What other sites are there to take in. Good call on Seven Feathers.

I lived in the Sac area for 25 years and have returned in the coach several times. We really like staying at the Cal Expo CG at the state fairgrounds. There is nothing there but gravel and blacktop but it's very clean and centrally located. Great green belt trails along the American River go forever and one can bike to Old Town and downtown area if you're so inclined.

Using this as a base to see SF might be a stretch. It's at least two hours each way.

Thanks Rick, We will check that out. We also have a relate that just moved to the Folsom area. They are not inmates Ha Ha.

I wondered if it would be a little far to SF. so will move closer to there after a few days.

We have stayed at seven Feathers before and really enjoyed it.

I stayed at the Sacramento West KOA for a week in October. Very convenient to Old Town Sac - river boat, railroad museum, great place to walk around all the shops.

If you are doing a single day trip to San Fran, it is doable. Beware of the traffic on I-80.

There is a small RV park along I 80 in Vallejo called Tradewinds. Not a lot of atmosphere but convenient to the Ferry for a ride into SF and close to NAPA wine country. It is best to make reservations, although the last time we were there business was down.

Sacramento West KOA and Cal Expo are good choices, I prefer the neighborhood at Cal Expo. You might consider taking the commuter train from Sacramento to SF and buy a 3 day public transportation pass in SF. It is a good system and can get you to about anywhere you might want to go. Parking in SF is not only a "Bitch" but expensive.

Cal Expo is good if you get a level site. They have some extremely unlevel sites so beware. http://www.calexpo.com/attractions/cal-expo-rv-park/ Be sure to check the events calendar because it can fill up on big events.

Plan on a minimum of two hours each way to visit San Francisco from this area.


I'd suggest staying closer to San Francisco if you want to visit the city.

If you're a member of Thousand Trails, there is a campground in Nicolaus called Lake Minder. Approx 15-20 miles from Sacramento . When in the area visit "Old Sacramento (frontier town) Old Sacramento*|* Home " and Sutter's Fort" Sutter's Fort SHP ."

Little further south, near Lodi, on I5, is Flag City RV. I much prefer it to all mentioned. BART station near Pleasanton if that interests you. Also a couple of parks near Vacaville. These three parks put you close to both Sac & SF yet out of the traffic & congestion.
