In 02, we did a 3 month trip to Nova Scotia and down the eastern seaboard. We wanted to visit NYC and found an RV Park about 70 mi. north that was a very short drive to the train station which had trains running into Grand Central Station all day long.

Does anyone live in that area that might tell me where we might have stayed? I have no records of it. Also, any other suggestions where we can stay and get public transportation to NYC? We are planning another eastern trip this summer.

I appreciate any help, Thank You.

Liberty Harbor in Jersey City,NJ. In a conjested area, with a view of Lady Liberty. Walk to water taxi as it is right in the marina. Many of the caravans stop here so they can help you with tours, transportation, etc. Have fun but don't do what I did, drive a 40 footer downtown.

You need to look along the east side of the Hudson. The "Hudson River Line" goes right to Grand Central.

Doorguy, I couldn't guess which park you stayed at, but we have stayed at Black Bear Campground in Florida, NY several times over the past few years. It is the closest RV park to NYC that we found, also quite easy to get to.

They have maps and travel assistance to all the local sights, such as West Point and Hyde Park. They have a van trip to downtown Manhattan that we have used in the past.

If you were 70 miles north of NYC, you were up around the Kingston/Rhinebeck area or the Catskills, along the Hudson. Don't know what C/G you were at, but, if it's proximity to a train into NYC, it's hard to beat Croton Point county park, just north of Tarrytown. We stayed there overnight back in August, and for a county park, it was quite nice. Full hook ups, flat sites, nice area. The metro station is just outside of the park. The park itself is just off Route 9. Highly recommended.

We have stayed at Liberty Harbor three maybe four or five times. Close to the subway transportation and the ferry. Not a "resort" but safe enough but few amenities.

Been to both Liberty and Croton Point. Liberty is just an asphalt parking lot and there is no need for a toad. Like others have said it is a very easy trip into the big city. Croton Point is more of a campground with grass and more of an outdoors feeling. If you have a toad then I would stay at Croton Point.
