Question Sacramento to LA. 99 or I-5

I live here in California and remember driving I-5 from LA to Stockton last summer. It was horrible! Worst hwy in the world. Beat the crap out of us.

So is 99 better or worse? Time is not an issue.

Highest hiway taxes in the Country and we have some of the worst roads in the Country. As soon as I leave California I give a big sigh of relief....mainly for my poor Bay Star.

I just drove up from Bakersfield via 99 in July and it sucked almost all the way to Sacramento. I'd suggest driving in the left lane to avoid the huge potholes every 50 yards. If I-5 is worse then it must be REALLY bad!!!

They are both terrible, but at least 99 goes through some towns with gas, etc. I think the trucks use I-5 a bit more.

Drove from So Cal last year to the Sacramento area. Took the 5 North and then the 99 South. By far, the 99 South was the WORST road I have ever driven the RV on.

Yes, both are bad.
We just went the 99 in July, they have repaved a lot of it. So it was much better than last year.

Might try this one - https://binged.it/2vg3jYr

Oops missed LA but that's not bad

IMHO the best way to avoid the Bad roads is to get out of the State. .......

Just having Fun,

At least, if there is a problem on 99 there are options. On I5 you can be stuck for hours. Few off ramps.

Yea this past July I needed those. Blew a tire on my tow dolly. Luckey there was a off ramp right there.

I drove from Ventura to Visalia last week so I took the 99 from I5 after the Grapevine, lots of trucks, real convey like. The right lane was terrible, but if you stayed in the middle lane as much as you could it was fine.I went both directions mid week both times. Have not done the I5 past Bakersfield north for some time, but as I recall it is pretty rough.

Someone said it better, they dislike both, but they dislike 99 less.

Both get so much use it is hard to keep them in decent shape. I travel South on 5 every January and it can be decent or just awful. Last February coming back on 5 the right lane was horrible. No paving company in CA knows how to transition from asphalt to concrete and back again. Every time you go over an underpass or drainage canal expect to have your RV and all the contents rattled severely.

I think 99 has a lot of the same problems.
