Safe rest areas Lousiana and Texas

Just returned from trip Al to Dallas Tx to Fredericksburg and back. La. and Tex have renamed some of their stops "safe rest areas" with areas for autos and rvs or putting rvs with trucks and having overnite security. We stayed in Tx at Wascomb (I-20W in an area marked for rvs and in Slidell ( I-10) in a "mixed"area and in both were in level enough areas so I didn't worry about frig. Wife has always worried about staying in these rest stops but felt better when she saw armed security. We actually had a curbside space in Tx where we could open 1 slide and used our gen. La. invites you in for free coffee after they open @ 8:30. See La and Tx websites for info. Enough kudos.. I-20 La and Tx especially near Dallas west of Buccees maybe roughest road I've been on and I-10 going East in La was terrible also. Cabinet doors bounced open and items bounced off bed and sofa.. I was and still am concerned about structural damage as there are squeaks in floor and cabinet doors looking crooked where they were fine before.

Several states are building such areas lately. The I 80/I 90 toll road in Indiana now has a few of these "full-service" rest areas. The demand for OTR truck parking spots increased dramatically after the electronic log books became mandatory, it left no fudge factor room for drivers.

We made use of several of the Texas "safety rest areas" on our spring trip. I thought they were renamed safety to keep drivers rested and safe on the road. I'm not so secure on the armed guard aspect. Whole different discussion there.
