Sarasota, Fl to Rochester Ny.

We are leaving tomorrow and heading to Rochester Ny for our next job. I have planned out a route to avoid major cities and toll roads. It's not so much the tolls I'm trying to avoid it's the fact that my border collie has decided toll attendents are the enemy.

Here is my plan: I-75 to 301 to I-10 to I-95 to I-26 to I-77 to I-81 to US-15. Looks good on the map but would like input from someone who has driven some of these roads.

Thanks in advance for any input.

That is the route I take most years from Binghamton, NY to Melbourne, FL. The only times I change routes is if there is snow in the mountains of 81/77.

That's the route I would take too. We've been on all of the roads in your list recently except for the I-77 segment. I know there's a pretty good climb on I-77 near the NC-VA border but other than that it's clear sailing. We were concerned about US 15 a bit but it turns out to be mostly 4-lane now and a very scenic mountain drive.

I just made the trip from Buffalo, N.Y. to Venice, Fl. this past May. I took I-90 to 79. Then 79 to Columbia, S.C. then 26 to 95 thru Jax, Fl. Then 301 to Gainesville, and I-75 the rest of the way. This was a very comfortable drive with a nice traffic flow. Very little construction.

Thanks to all for the replies. I was going to take 301 in Ocala but I think Gainesville is the better way.

Going north on I-75 the best bet is to take exit 358 and route 326 east just a couple of miles to US 301 just north of Ocala. About 2 miles up the road 301 goes to 65 mph speed limit. Watch your speed in the towns you go through on 301 - they're all notorious speed traps!

Sounds like you've been that way a few times, I'll take your advice on the route and watching my speed through the towns.

Thanks again
