Should I stress about quick nap stops??

I am just looking at our possible routes from New Hampshire to Washington, DC for later this week and I am starting to hyperventilate. We are planning on driving about 5 hours each day so that we will need one overnight somewhere in each direction. We though of just pulling into a rest area or a Wal-mart, etc. for a few hours of sleep before heading out again. I am usually so structured in my plans that I am having a problem not knowing when or where we will stop. I am stressing that when we do feel the need to pull over, we will not be anyplace safe to do so.

We are planning on being on I-84 or I-87 at about our halfway point. Any suggestions in the Newburgh, NY area to the NJ line??? And should I be terribly worried without a concrete stopping point???

Thanks in advance.

Faith

We make certain stops - There's a rest area in Port Jervis, NY just off the highway. Then Hagerstown, MD has a great Walmart, and a IHOP in the area. I'm sure you have a listing of the walmarts along the route (there are so many!) Where are you going to in Washington?

Faith,

I-84 in CT near the NY state line has a rest area that fits the bill. It has 3 parking areas, cars, RV and trailers and a truck area. The RV & trailer area has a dump station and potable water.

Thanks for the tips guys...

Hopefully we will be leaving tomorrow mid-day. We are going to hubby's doctor today for the expected green light that we are good to go. If we cannot go, we will have 2 very diappointed grandkids.

We have reservations at Cherry Hill in College Hill. The coach is all packed except for the food and if the doctor says we are good to go, I will stop on the way home and load it up tonight...Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Thanks again,

Faith

I think you meant college park not college hill. Cherry hill is a great park. The
best thing is the bus line ends in the park. It is the last stop, so the bus sits there 5 to 10 min. You can watch for the bus and just walk up when it gets there. No standing around for 20 minutes. Remember ther is limited parking in DC. You DO NOT want to take your car.

Faith,
When we travel that direction, we take I-84 to US-209S and stay at the Deleware Water Gap/Pocono Mountain KOA in East Stroudsburg, PA. About 176 miles from hartford. It is okay for an overnight stay.

If you follow Google Map from there it will take you over to York, PA, and then down I-83 and around Baltimore, MD into DC. My preference is to go over and pick up US-15 down to I-70 into Washington. That gets you out of the Baltimore to DC traffic.

Happy trails.

And unless you have very savy young adults with you to navigate the Metro, which is 1 or 2 exits up from Cherry Hill, take the bus. My hubby and I would still be wandering around DC if it weren't for my daughter and her husband. Very confusing.
