This will be our first trip Alaska. I admit to be slightly intimidated by the 11.5 mile 11% grade going to and from Skagway on the South Klondike Highway. We're thinking about leaving the rig in Carcross and just driving the truck into Skagway to see the sights. Any comments?
Also, we're thinking about going to Haines on the way home and putting the whole rig on the ferry and crossing over to Skagway and continuing home from there. However, the ferry company cautions that depending on tides, long overhang vehicles can get damaged entering or exiting the ferry. I read on this or another forum about a fellow who damaged his rear stabilizers that way. Anyone have any experience with that issue?
