Sky Line Drive

We are planning to go to the Sky line Drive in our 36' Kountry Star. We plan to enter at Swift Run Gap Entrance Station from the west on Hwy 33 and then camp at Loft Mountain Campground.

Has anyone done this route and have any comments good or bad about th route for a MH?

Thanks!
Wil

I know there are height restrictions on sky line due to tunnels.

Not sure of that section but it is a narrow twisty road in general.

Here is a link to a longer discussion that might answer your question:

Marys rock tunnel skyline drive height?

Let us know how you make out if you do it. I keep looking at it. ;-)

I should have been clearer. How is Hwy 33 from I81 to The Skyline Drive.

I know about the height thing

Thanks!

Just FYI. But I believe you'll find the Blue Ridge Pkwy. to be more scenic than Skyline Drive.

I know about the Blue Ridge Parkway. I've traveled it and camped on it for over 65 years. In fact I was on it yesterday.

This Skyline Drive venture is just a stop on the way to the coast of Maine.

Thanks!

In 2008 I took Skyline Dr from the Northern end at Front Run, down to the Swift Run Entrance, then took 33 to I-81 and continued South from there.

I don't recall the details of the road or its conditions, but I also don't recall running into any major concerns or issues. Skyline Drive was slow and twisty at times, and the parking lots could be tight for an RV, but I didn't have any trouble, including at Mary's Rock tunnel (although that was tight.) As for US33, I seem to recall it being a typical US highway. Of course, you will have some hills to climb/descend in that area.

Thanks ShapeShifter. That's the info I wanted.

We're on the way to Maine from NC and have a few days to kill. We'll do three or four days on the Skyline Drive. I expect to do the sightseeing from the Honda. From very long ago, I remember that the overlooks are really too small for a full sized MH and toad.

Thanks!

Yes, I didn't even think about pulling into many of them. But I got lucky with the one in the picture above: it was empty, long, and a straight-in/out scenario. I couldn't resist the chance to take some pictures.
