Hello All,

We are planning on heading south in another week or so and wanted to drive thru the Appalachias before heading to GA. Looking at the map, I see a "Skyline Drive" running SSW thru Virginia, but before adding that as part of my itinerary, I was hoping to get the advantage of someone else's experience. Is this doable in a 40' MH pulling a tow? Looking for any issues that would make this prohibitive. Thanks very much in advance for your assistance.

We did this the last week of Oct last Fall. Stayed overnight at Loft Mountain Campground. There are absolutely no issues for a 40' coach.

The consensus on these forums was that the drive and campgrounds would be packed because of prime leaf season but the campgrounds had lots and lots of room and the drive was very lightly traveled.

A couple photos from last Fall are below.

In 3 weeks we're driving the complete Blue Ridge Parkway on our way to FL for the winter.

My experience is if you go almost anywhere there are pretty leaves on the weekend it will be crowded. Go during the week if you possibly can.

Tom,

One question to you since you have been there....I see the picture coming out of the tunnel. Is this Mary's Rock Tunnel? Asking as I was reading that this tunnel was 12'8". I'm not sure if that was at the top of the rounded peak or at the sides. Interested because we are 12'6" or 12'7" according to our brochure. My husband is nervous.

I guess the worst thing we could do is have to disconnect and turn around.

Thanks for your response.

My first photo was taken when I got stuck in the tunnel. Just kidding!

I asked about the tunnel at the gate when I entered. It's 13' MINIMUM. That's at the very side of the highway. In the middle it must be 18' or more. The roof of the tunnel is curved. Tour buses travel the drive with no problems.

Ask at the gate if it'll make you more comfortable.

My wife gets upset when I take photos while driving the coach!
