Exit 27 off I40, get on and stay on highway 74. The signs will refer to it as the "mountain expressway". Yes, there are campgrounds on 19, most are not big rig appropriate. Yes, I would avoid highway 19, Maggie Valley to Cherokee, in my rig with toad.

We frequently will stay at Happy Holliday, just a few miles from the Casino (one of my wife's favorite area attractions), and will take highway 74 to 441 to Cherokee.
