South Jersey to Charlotte N.C.
Looking for the best route from S.Jersey to Charlotte NC. Wanting to go to the all star race in May and looking for the fastest route. I think I-95 has a tunnel at Baltimore and need to avoid tunnels due to propane on board. Don't know weather to go into PA. and go down I-81 or take I-95 and bypass the tunnel.
Open for suggestions
Thanks

I would take a few extra days and ride the Sky Line Drive from Front Royal Va., and Blue Ridge Parkway down to Rt 52 in Fancy Gap. Take 52 to 85 right to Charlotte. Doesn't answer your question regarding Baltimore but isn't there a bypass around it?
BRP has several nice places to camp on and off the parkway. Very relaxing way to travel. We ride our Goldings on the BRP when ever we can since we live so close to it.

Hi this might be a stupid question but Speaking of the tunnel on I-95 in Baltimore do we really need to avoid them due to propane on board? When we came home from Florida after we picked up our RV it was about 4:30 in the AM and we used the tunnel. I read some where we can not, but I was not sure.
Thanks
Ron

The last time I went through that tunnel, it said no propane vehicles allowed.

Yes, no propane through both of the Baltimore tunnels. Just follow 695 around the east side of Baltimore. It only adds about 6 or 7 miles to your trip.

Are you not interested in using the Ferry to skirt around DC?

Cut across PA and jump on I81 south then pick up I77 south of Roanoke to Charlotte. Hit the Philly-Baltimore-DC I95 corridor at the wrong time and you could end up looking for some place to dump your tanks. Google Maps show I81 is 30 minutes longer while you could be creeping in traffic around DC for several hours. You’ll hit some hills in south western Virginia but they are easily manageable.

Hi Bob -
We're likely taking that very same trip next year, so I'd be very interested in how you make out and any recommendations you may have. Thinking of hitting both races too and touring the race shops during the week, too.
Thanks!
