Southbound Route to Silver Springs, FL

Nothing like a little winter travel planning to take one's mind off the heat wave. We are going to Silver Springs, FL next January and I'm trying to pick my route. Instead of taking I-95 to I-10 to US 301 to I-75, I'm thinking of taking I-95 further south in one of two routes that look interesting om the map:

Exit 284 (Flagler Beach / Bornell), West on Fl 100, South on FL 11, West on FL 40.

or

Exit 268 (Ormond Beach), West on FL 40.

Not in any big hurry, since we'll just be coming from St. Mary's, GA. Just don't want to get on any narrow, no shoulder roads or get caught in an eternal construction zone.

Any thoughts about these routes?

Thanks.

We stay near The Villages just a little south of there. I just take 301 and avoid the crazies on I95. Its not fast but good road and easy drive. Just be sure to slow down through small towns.
