Texas

Hello everyone!
I have a question for anyone who has already run these routes or is familiar with this area.

I need to drive my motorhome/toad from Albuquerque NM, to Houston TX. I see two clear routes that I can choose from but have no reference to sort out which route is better or worse. I don’t mind flipping a coin but am hopeful someone could share their insight with me on this. I’m not interested in any sightseeing; I have a limited time and would like to spend as much time in Houston as possible before going home.

#1. Continue on the I-40 East thru Amarillo, take the 287 thru Fort Worth, then I-45 straight down to Houston.

#2. Take I-40 to Santa Rosa then the 84 thru Lubbock, pick up I-20 thru Abilene, then the 36 & 6 to the 290, straight into Houston and actually get a little closer to where I need to go.

Between the two it looks like a 39 miles difference.
#1 Appears to use more interstate but skirts Dallas (more traffic?).
#2 Appears to use smaller highways but could get stuck behind slow moving vehicles.

Again, looking for quickest, easiest, and fewest headaches.
Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!!

287 is great road all the way, but it merges with I-35W in Fort worth for a few miles and it under perpetual construction and traffic jams if anywhere close to rush hour & AM to 9AM or 3 to 7pm :( and MAYBE bad at other times...

And promise you Fort Worth traffic is not much less than Dallas traffic --- can't tell you about your other route, but google maps says this.

and looks to be about 50 miles further for the north route.

Thank you for the input! It's nice to get some eyes on the road while planning.
