After you enter the staring & ending points for a route, Basecamp will calculate the route automatically. If it is not what you want, you can use shaping points to force the route to your liking. The insert point command is under Tools, Insert. It is also on a toolbar. Shaping points are not waypoints, just reference points to customize your route.
