Thru or around Kansas City
We are planning a trip that will take us north on I-35. We are wondering if it is better to try I-35 thru Kansas City or take I-435 around. Will be going on to Des Moines. Thanks for any advice.

Not sure about the I-35 North South Route but we always took I-70 East-West straight through without any issues.

Time of day? Rush hours on the 435 are pretty messy, other times not so much. Ditto for 35N.
Almost no matter what time, though, you'll find it better than Houston, Atlanta or Nashvegas.
Good luck and safe travels always!

We live in the KC metro area and 435 has big construction area going on with lane closures heading East between 35 off ramp and Metcalf Ave. Not going to be opening up lanes in the near future.
I would take 35 through downtown, but try to time it so you don’t have rush hour traffic. 7-9am/4-6pm...

Kind-a dependent on day of week and time of day. Suggest using WAZE and getting its recommendation. Maybe check Google Maps traffic too.

What is WAZE?
Hey all,
I'm generally clueless on electronics and software. Is this an app like MapQuest?

Waze is an app on your cell phone. Personally, I wouldn’t use It. It will route you through side roads, etc in an effort to save a few minutes. That may be ok in a car but not in an RV.

Daughter lives in suburb of KC so we RV thru it often. After 8:30 am u til 3:30 very manageable. Avoid sporting event times around the sports complex.

I have lived in KC area almost all my life, and drove a truck locally for most of it. Has there ever been a time since it opened that there was not construction on I 435?

If you're driving North on I35 from Wichita, I'd recommend staying on the Turnpike at Emporia and drive to Topeka, then I-70 east to KC. On the westside of KC I'd go north on I-435 around the north side of KC. Construction on 435 is usually around the much heavily travelled southside. You will encounter much less traffic around the northside of KC regardless of the time of day. Hope this helps.
