We will be spending our winter in AZ. Leaving middle of Nov. We will be towing our toad with our MH. I am thinking I would want to take the southern route this time of year. I was looking at catching I-69 to I-70 to I-55 to Memphis then to I-30 to I-20 and finally I-10.
This is our first time going west and will appreciate any information about getting there.

Are you going to be visiting friends or relatives along the way?

Are you going to spend time at any historical or cultural sites, or visit any national or state parks along the way? There are lots of interesting places to visit as you travel from Ohio to Arizona.

Some of the RV parks in the "northern" states will be closed ... so you will need to do some planning on where you will be staying for one or two nights (depending on what route you finally choose)

Enjoy your time in the Phoenix area ...

We plan not to do any sightseeing on the way, but we do plan to take our time coming home. We hope to catch Passport rv parks along the way, or whatever is available. We have in the past going to Florida, and to the RGV just called a rv park when we are a couple hours away. The first day I plan to push a little longer south than our normal driving time. I plan to get almost to Missouri for the first stop. That is unless someone has a better route. This is our fourth year snowbirding, still looking for the ideal place to stay. The RGV is the futhest west we have been, by car or mh.

stearn:

Your route and camping/overnight plan sounds fine. We've been real full timers since 05 and like the flexibility of NOT having to make some campground reservation date/time.

We're currently in Sedona, AZ have come down from the Black Hills (S. Dak.) and will be migrating back East to visit son in Florida.

Hey,....where's "Gold Canyon", AZ??

Have a good trip.

if you are just looking for a safe place to sleep and maybe shop a little and catch breakfast in the morning imho nothing beats walmart. i have even been able to get wifi in a lot of them.
i always ask security or a management person for permission to park and thank them in the morning.
check this website for walmarts and other stores that allow or do not allow overnight parking. this website is updated by users.

So it is looking like the route I mentioned is ok . We really prefer to stay overnight at a RV park with hookups. We like to get in before dark, and put out the slides and relax watch a little tv, maybe even sit outside weather permitting. Would not be comfortable doing that in a Wal-Mart. I might add, I think it is great, that option is available to us RVers !
We have reservations at Canyon Vista Rv Park, then in Jan to Yuma, spending Feb/Mar in Tucson. Hoping we will get in a lot of sightseeing in all areas !
