Toll prices try Colorado

Don't use E 470 unless you want to pay for the road all by yourself.
I drove both ways around Denver on this toll road. There wasn't one posted price. This toll road is 47 miles. I got a bill for $63.90.
I will be going thru other states from now on.

the toll prices on 470 are posted at every toll station. They are not friendly to anything with more than 2 axles or over 10,000 gvwr.

Towing your toad adds a ridiculous surcharge. I use 225 to 70 and then 270 back to 25 when going north. skips the denver traffic on 25 and no tolls

The I-470 tolls for RVs are pretty steep. The road is fine if you're a commuter and don't want to deal with I-25 & I-70 during congested times. When I travel around Denver, To go S I use U.S. 6 from the west to I-25 S to avoid some of the slow areas. To go towards the N, use I-76.

From the East, I-225 S to I-25. to go toward Colorado Springs. If going N, take I-270 N to I-25 N.

It's not perfect, but you avoid some of the slow spots. If you really know Denver, there are other surface streets you can use. If you know you want to head south from Kansas I-70, take U.S. 24 to Colorado Springs.

Now you KNOW what others have asked about and have been told to AVOID - 470 around Denver - it is CRAZY $$$$$ and is seldom used even by locals - Do like most and time your trip through and around Denver to avoid the traffic - and enjoy the state - as it is BEAUTIFUL and FUN.

Best of Luck in your Future travels,

. .

Sometimes it is better to just grin and bear it and sit in traffic on the direct route.

They are not just banking tax $$ for their Colorado pot, they are smoking it.

Amen to that!

I lasted about half way along 470 with the TC and toad before exiting in a bankruptcy panic. Never went back there again.

We too use 225 and 270 now, but my thought is that it "reduces" rather than "skips" the 25 Denver area traffic. It probably depends some on the time of day, but this Summer going East it was bumper to bumper until we got all the way out to 70. I'm very thankful to the courteous drivers that gave us a space to change lanes or we may have gone South without wanting to. It was around 4:30-5:00 in the afternoon, a bad time in any city. We go through there nearly every year on our way from OR to WV, or coming back.

Just my 2c.

Steve

I have driven E-470 when I needed to be somewhere in the south Denver Metro area without the traffic delays, but I'd never drive it with my TT. Since my Jayco is a tandem axle, even though it's no heavier than my F-150, it triples the charge. It's a sick joke, and you really don't know until you get the bill. Trying to read the toll signs as you flash by at highway speeds and then do the math in your head is too distracting, and I really think that they are counting on most people not bothering.

E-470 looks like an easy way to avoid the hassle of going straight through the city when coming in from the NE and wanting to head south on I-25, but don't kid yourself. Better to take I-76 all the way west to I-70 and then to C-470, then around back east to I-25. Longer drive but it's all free.

If I'm come on I-70 and going south, I'd take I-225 to I-25. E-470 avoids a lot of traffic, but not worth the cost with more than 2 axles.

As a Colorado resident I can safely say there is NEVER a reason to use 470.. Very few locals even use it. If you need to save that much time just leave earlier. I loathe toll rods.

I also got the 470 shakedown. It said toll road but I couldn't find a toll booth. But surprise, surprise. When we got back to California there was a big surprise in the mailbox. I phoned them because I thought they were charging me a fine, but oh no. That was just the toll.
Has anyone tried using the license plate covers that prevent cameras from reading your plate ?

They don't work. That's been tested. If it is readable at all, they can read it in the photo. Mythbusters did a thing on it. That was for speed cameras, but they use the same camera technology.

You're not alone. Toll by-pass roads at exorbitant prices are becoming more and more common.

In the Toronto area the government formed a PPP ( Public Private Partnership) to build a bypass highway to take some pressure off the notorious 401, the busiest highway in North America.

The 407ETR (Electronic Toll Road) runs 108 kms (67 miles) around Toronto, to drive its length (one way) overnight will cost you about $25, to do it during rush will nearly double that, about $46.

They don't call them the Lexus lanes for no reason.

But we are able to enjoy Colorado and get everywhere we want without them!

Just be smart and avoid them -there are other roads

The only time we use them is when we are late for a flight during rush hour - 40 miles - 40 or less minutes, worth the $$ then.

JMHO,
