Travel Advice Needed
We are Heading up to Philly from Atlanta. We have had a few people give me feedback on doing all I can to avoid I-95.
First, confirm this for me please!
I can take I77 to I81 to Harrisburg PA and then cut over, but that is another 130 miles.
Is I95 really that bad. We will be towing 4 down.
Thanks, we will be be traveling mid week.

Depends on time of day and day, but, from experience, I-95 (including the loop around DC), can be a PITA every day of the week from Baltimore to south of Richmond. When living in N VA and headed to SC or further South, I took I-81.
I81 will be busy too with trucks, but that's why they are on I81. By the way, on I81, 60 MPH in VA in a couple of towns means 60 MPH. Kangaroo courts that force you to appear in court for 10 MPH and over...2-3 months later.

Its not that bad. I live in NC close to I-95. Dont think its any worse than any other interstate. Good travels.

If you haven't already made the trip, I would advise I-81. I've made both several times and all the frustrating traffic jams happened on I-95..both ways. The old "accordian" stop and go's for no apparent reason.
If you've done it on I-95 without problems...congrats

How about Rt. 13 down thru Delaware and across the Chesapeake Bay Tunnel Bridge at Norfolk? Good road, easy traffic. At Norfolk, take 17 south to I95 in the Carolinas. 95 is not bad when you get below Richmond.

mc4fun, if you decide on I-81, get on the Pa. Turnpike at Carlisle. This is a toll road to Valley Forge, then 4 lane divided on the Schuylkill Expressway to Philadelphia. Unfortunately, the Harrisburg area to Philly requires the Pa. Turnpike as there are no other direct 4-lane roads between the two.
I have done Delaware 13 with a 5th wheel and a motorhome up to I-95. No problems except for a few areas of red lights. You will have to shut off the LP before the tunnel/bridge over the Bay. There is a rest area on the north side to turn it back on.
I have gone around Balt./DC enough on 95 in just a passenger veh. to dread the trip.
