Travel from Grants Pass Oregon to Crescent City, CA
We are visiting Crater Lake NP this week, then wanted to head down to Redwoods NP. Trucker atlas shows US highway 199 Orange for Oregon portion, but not California portion. We are 43' DP with tow. Will this route be okay for us?

Yes. The last section is windy, narrow, and interesting but totally doable. Just pay attention, don't crowed the center line or shoulder.

We have taken that route the last three summers. Daylight and well rested.

beautiful drive, check out the Oregon Caves you'll need to use your towd to get there from Cave junction. it should be getting warm near Grants pass upper 80's about now. the hi way is very drivable, its not an expressway just a good scenic drivable secondary hi way.

You're kind of early for Crater Lake. The road is still closed around it. Where are you staying? Collier State Park is very nice as is Joseph Stewart State Rec Area.

Thanks all for the reassurance! We are at Collier SP until Friday. Will try to see as much of Crater as we can, either drive, bike, or hike it! Will also check out the Oregon Caves on our way down to CA.

While you are at Collier check out the logging museum across the street. It is a self guided tour with lots of old iron.
My oldest grandson had a blast. I kinda let him climb all over the stuff in the back lot and he became a fairly good cat skinner.
They have a steam-up weekend of June 16, I want to take him to it but it is his dads weekend.

drove this last year--40' plus towed.
No problems just take your time, few tight curves but all marked.

If I remember correctly there is one sharp turn with outcropping that will require a wide turn encroaching the other lane - be careful. It was many years ago when I headed from CC to GPass. I was relieved to see 18 wheelers coming down from OR.
