Is 287 from Dallas to Amarillo, Tx a good road to travel with a MH. I Have not seen any campgrounds listed on this route. It appears to be closer than traveling I-35 to I-40 . Any suggestions.

We use the Ole Town Cotton Gin RV Park in Goodlett, TX (just west of Quanah) when we're traveling 287 from D/FW to Amarillo. 287 is an excellent road - 4 lane all the way.

I just took this route two weeks ago from Houston to Colorado. There are also two large rest stops that would be good for overnight. Once you arrive in Amarillo there are many good RV parks. The route was fine I drove it in a 33 ft DP.

According to Mapquest, 190.03 miles and 3 hours, 7 minutes (car, not MH time, of course).

Thanks everyone for information regarding travel on 287 from Denton to Amarillo. Your assistance was perfect and we enjoyed the Cotten Gin. We are going East on Monday and would appreciate your suggestions for a campground on I-90 close to Seattle,Wa.

How did you like our winds here in Amarillo? Or, maybe you missed them. We were out of town in Branson and heard they had calmed some. We've been having 30 to 40mph winds the last month or so.

I just drove that route two weeks ago. I found a good stop in Tyler Texas then Vernon Texas and then made it to Amarillo the next day. The road is fine but the wind made the drive a nightmare. I fought a head wind of 20-25 MPH all the way in a ford gasser. I will never do that again.
