Hi dgrandusky,
It all depends on the weather. Stay on the Interstate highways and circumvent bad weather. There is a travel and route forum on iRV2. You might get many more responses by posting there. Go to Crossroads - About Traveling - iRV2 Forums and check it out.

California is a big state. Are you headed towards LA or up to San Fran?

Either way, you need to be prepared for bad weather and give yourself plenty of time so you can stay put for a few days while the weather clears.

There are very FEW RV parks along I-80 that stay open year around ... there are more along I-70 that are open ... and even more along I-40 that are open year around ... and essentially all are open along I-10

I have travelled from Wisconsin to Arizona in January in years past ... I always plan two or three alternate routes ... and keep checking the weather ... and try to choose a route that takes me around storms ... on a couple of occasions there was no route around and we just hunkered down in an RV park for a couple of days until the roads were passible again.
