My husband and i just purchased a Dutchman Kodiak and hopefully plan on traveling a lot more to NJ to spend more time with his grandchildren on Staten Island, NY. We usually travel on Interstate 95... But now that we have the camper with propane, we can no longer go thrugh the Mchenry Tunnel. Does anyone know a better way to go? We are hoping to stay in Freehold NJ.

The Baltimore tunnels can be bypassed by taking the I695 Beltway around Baltimore.

East I695 is shorter, but there's a toll bridge. West I695 is a bit longer, no toll, but lots of traffic.

If you would like bypass all of Washington and Baltimore, I suggest exiting I95 at Carmel Church, VA onto Rt 207, which leads to Rt 301.

Follow Rt 301 across the Bay Bridge at Annapolis and into Delaware.

Rt 301 becomes Rt 896 and follow 896 to I95/Rt 896 interchange to get back on I95.

It may be a bit longer with a couple of small towns, but it's a much nicer ride through some pretty country.

I always go that way.

Thanks so much! Guess we may find ourselves leaving a day or 2 earlier anytime we travel that way. We think we will take some small weekend trips to get used to the camper as i guess we werent thinking and bought one a bit longer than we probably should have..haha.. Hes camped before..this will be my first adventure.

I bypass the whole DC mess by turning off I-95 in Fredricksburg, VA and take Rt. 17 to I-66 west and then pick up I-81 north.

When you get to Carlisle, PA, you can connect to the PA Turnpike East and take that to the NJ Turnpike for a short ride to I-195 that will lead you right to Freehold and Bruce Springsteen country!

Take the grandkids to Six Flags while you are there!
