Traveling South from Laughlin,Nv thru Tucson,AZ

Plan on running Hwy 93 from Kingman thru Wickenburg.Would like to avoid Hwy60S to Phoenix. Have heard you can cut over to I-17S below Wickenburg. Does anyone know if the 101S around Phoenix to I-10S is the best way to get around Phoenix? Someone mentioned that sections of 101 around Phoenix are under construction and in not good shape. Would appreciate your suggestions on best route? Thanks

That's the way I'd do it (60 being the same as 93). You bypass a gazillion signal lights north west of Phoenix.
