Trip to Tampa??

In September I will be heading to Tampa (actually Seffner) for the Saints/Bucs football game and will be staying at Lazy Days. At first I was trying to make the trip in 2 days with one stop, but each leg would be close to 300 or so miles. I have now decided to take my time being I am in no hurry and do it in 3 days. Below are my possible overnight stops and would appreciate any feedback (good or bad) about my stops. I will be coming from Pearl River, La.

1st Night - Sunset King RV – Defuniak Springs - 237 Miles

2nd Night - Travelers Campground - Alaucha – 250 Miles

3rd Night - Lazy Days - 145 miles

For just over night stays we do not make reservations more than an hour or two ahead of time. I like to drive by time, not mileage. When I feel like I'm about ready to call it a day, DW will pull up one of her iPad apps and find a place.

After working by schedules for 40 years it is hard to do that. I am retired now, but I have not got the nerve to wing it yet. Maybe once I get a few more trips under my belt and I teach the DW how to work the Android app.

Now that we are back from a trip similar to Tampa (distance wise) I have changed my mind back to a single stop instead of two stops. The 6 hours of driving was not an issue at all especially being the Tampa trip will be flat and on the interstate the entire route. The trip I just finished was in the Ozark mountains on 2 lane roads about a third of the time.

So now we will be stopping somewhere around Tallahassee. My only requirement will be a pull thru where I will not need to disconnect the toad. I will not need sewer, but will want water and electricity.

There is Tallahassee East KOA and a Tallahassee West (Chattahoochee KOA).

Don't forget you lose an hour coming east from LA.

Right now I am leaning toward Big Oak Tree RV just West of Tallahassee. It will be about a 7 hour drive.

Big Oak would be my choice, easy on/off of i-10 and some big pull thru level sites with a friendly staff. Also easy drive from Pearl River.

Oh BTW check the Florida State football schedule because if they are playing a home game that week-end you will be lucky to find anything around Tallahassee.
