Tell me about it. It started out being only 2 months long plus I had already cut back on some locations.

There are two dates that I am trying to keep. One is I want to travel through Houston on a Sunday. The other one is the Balloon Fiesta dates. Being I will now be traveling through Texas and South Arizona in August will the temps be to hot.

Our Grand Canyon - Bryce Canyon trip is scheduled for mid September. We will be staying in Trailer Village on the South Rim, then going to Bryce Canyon. The route I have chosen from the south Rim to Bryce Canyon is across 64 (East Rim Drive) to 89 and then north on 89. Google Earth shows 64 pretty well. It looks like there are a couple tight turns, but not bad. Will be in a 38ft Motorhome, pulling a Jeep GC. Also plan on driving the East Rim prior to leaving to take the pictures and the like so there will be less need of that on the drive to 89. So, is 64 a good road or should I back track to Flagstaff and take 89 north from there?
TIA
Michael

64 to 89 is fine, when you make the turn on 89 alt you will be going uphill for a while in slow, but all doable.

After getting to Jacob lake you're fine,

there is a good state park right there
(Jacob on 89) for a nite or two

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it but if your going to Zion, head a bit North and take in Bryce Canyon. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy and Be Safe.

Temps in Southern AZ and up through and past Phx in Aug will be in the 110 - 116 range until you get up close to the rim, near Flagstaff. Most of your other northern destinations will be in the mid to upper 80s. If you've never been to Sedona AZ, it would be a shame to skip, especially if your traveling up I-17. Temps would be in the 90s there. Distant Drums RV Park in Camp Verde along I-17 is a very nice park should you need to stop for the night. If your going to clip the SW corner of CO, I would highly recommend a few nights in Durango CO. Unless you are set on seeing Gallup NM, Hwy 550 through NM to Albuq is a beautiful drive and nice highway to travel. If you choose not to camp at the balloon festival, I think American RV Park on the west end of Albuq is the nicest park in the area. Fair warning, all the RV Parks in Albuq double their rates during the balloon festival. Best of luck & and enjoy your trip!

Whew - that is hot.

This trip has blown way out of proportion and I need to start rethinking it.

Being it appears I will be traveling through the hottest part of the country (Texas/Arizona) during the hottest time (late August/early September) of the year I am thinking of reversing my route. But will the National Parks in Utah and Arizona still be open in late October and November? I would still like to have the Balloon Fiesta stop if possible.

The national parks in Utah & Arizona are open all year so reversing your trip would be ideal. November you will find much cooler/cold temps above the Grand Canyon and into Utah.

My rough calculations have me in most of the parks in October.

Balloon Fiesta 1st week in OCT. Don't miss it. "Greatest Show Above Earth" was one of their past themes.

The Balloon Fiesta dates are what everything is built around. I may have to delete some of the Utah parks in order to get to the North Rim before it closes for the year on October 15th. If the North Rim closes that early it would seem everything in Utah would also being they are further North.

It's not the further north that's the issue with the North Rim closing , it's altitude and snow . I know that the North Rim is a couple of thousand feet higher that the South Rim. I'd have to check but could be 4k or more higher than Zion & Bryce. One of the USA's largest Snowmobile Clubs is active on the North Rim.

It looks like I will need to take out the North Rim stop and keep the rest of them.
