I plan on leaving Tucson about the first week of April. I'm curious about the best route and should I be concerned about things like tornados at that time of the year.

Can't help with the route, but Weather.com says that it will be peak tornado season. Sleep light.

I-10 - I-20 - I-30 - I-40 - I-65 - US 31W.

Yes on tornadoes - anywhere east of Midland, TX - although lately the April storms usually have moved further north. In our area (I-30 / I-40 junction) most are in February and March.
