Tucson to Show Low

I'm in Tucson, headed for the FMCA rally in Farmington, NM. Plan to take 77 all the way up to Holbrook. I'm in a 37' DP pulling a toad. Any of you out there have any insights for me on the advisability of this route? I've heard it can get iffy between Globe and Show Low. Will appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

Road my motorcycle that way on Saturday. Good road, steep and curvy in some areas, but very driveable. Saw several RV's going this route on Saturday. I wouldn't hesitate, but then again I have a lot of experience driving in the mountains of the pacific northwest.

Very steep drive. Drove our car from Tucson to Globe. You will be getting some very challenging practice on your driving skills. Lots of steep up and down, and very twisting curves. I'm making the same trip in a few weeks. I'm taking 10 to 17 to 40. You will be burning some fuel taking 77, and not a very relaxing drive. I drove a bike also that way several times. I loved it, but not my idea of fun in a 40 ft do with toad.

Did that drive in February with a 36' pulling a toad. Very scenic. No problem for us. They were doing some rock work on a mountain side. They would close the road for 30 minutes. Knock some boulders down, clean them up then let traffic go. Road had some switch backs and steep areas but very doable.

We'll be doing that drive, once again, next month. It's a beauty and many RVers do it. The only issue on the drive is Salt River Canyon. Here's a link to the Mountain Directory for Truckers. Read #13 - Salt River Canyon.

We have no problem doing it but it all depends on how you feel with a long downhill of 6%. Also, how does your RV handle with long grades? Have you done so in the past? It really depends on YOU. Have a good trip!
