I will be travelling from Tucson to Spokane this summer and am looking for any advice on the best route that also includes some scenic stops along the way. Our rig is a 2000 F250 7.3 diesel, towing a 32 ft. Forest River Sierra 5th wheel. We plan to take several weeks each way, but this will be our first long distance trip with both the truck and 5th wheel. Anyone traveled a similar route and have any tips?

We've taken this route: I-17 north to Flagstaff; Hwy 89 north to Fredonia, AZ (Grand Canyon - North Rim) then AZ 389 which becomes UT59 to UT9 (Zion); UT/ID 93 to I-84 picking up ID 95 just beyond Boise, ID and continuing on ID95 north (could work in Sawtooth Mtns at Stanley, UT).

Continuing on Hwy 95 North it will take you to Riggins where you could stop and take a rafting trip on the Salmon River. In Grangeville ID, you can stop and see the mammoth display in town. Don't forget to stop in Cottonwood ID to see the Dog Bark Park. It is a B&B in the shape of a dog. You can google it. There is a lot of art work done with chain saws. It is worth the stop to stretch your legs. It can be seen from the hwy. On hwy 95 you will have two steep grades to go up, one at White Bird and the other out of Lewiston ID. Just out of Lewiston at the top of the hill, you will take Hwy 195 North to Spokane or you can stay on hwy 95 north and go up through Idaho to Coeur d' Alene and hit the interstate to Spokane. From Lewiston to Spokane is a 2 hour drive.

Thanks for the route information. As this is our first long trip, I am a bit concerned about some of the steeper sections we will pass through- part of my reasoning for looking at safer routes. I am planning to install an exhaust brake in the truck before we head out in June- I believe that will make things much safer, and allow me to enjoy the drive a bit more!
