Tunnel Wolf Creek Pass

Anyone know height and width of the tunnel East of Durango on Highway 160? Any issue with class A diesel pusher on that road?

I think anything of legal height will pass with no problem. It was just built in 2005. Should go through like gas through a funnel, eggs through a hen.

LOL. It is not listed in my motor carriers road atlas which lists all low clearance locations of 14'6".

With a nod to Tom T!! Glad to know it was rebuilt. Last time I was through the underpass was 12'9",. That was a gazillion years ago.

Here's a Colorado DOT website with the map and listing of height restrictions, no restrictions on 160.
Restrictions & Maps — CDOT

I did Highway 160 in 2009 and it was absolutely gorgeous. Wolf Creek Pass and the tunnel (another one is just a snow shed) was no problem. Here's a shot approaching the top of the pass coming up from Pagosa Springs:

Sign says clearance to the twelve foot line, chickens were stacked to thirteen nine. They've rebuilt since CW Mccall wrote the song.

chuckle....yep. Since you mentioned that, I'm going to youtube.com and play that song just for the heck of it. I should have had a CD of it and played it going over the pass!

We've used the route often and will do so again in a month. It's big RV-friendly and semi's drive it. It's a gorgeous drive.

It is a very scenic drive but don't let the scenery take away the fact that it is very steep & serious switchbacks, I wouldn't say you should avoid it just go slow & remember if somebody writes a song about a highway there must be a reason !

This guy drives the pass with a dash cam filming it and the song dubbed into the background. The video is shown in high speed, but I like how the driver uses both lanes going downhill into Pagosa Springs. Question, is that an Oldsmobile hood ornament?

No height or width issues with any class A. Big rig RV's as well as full size commercial tractor trailers go up & down Wolf Creek Pass all day, everyday.
There are actually 2 tunnels, one is a real tunnel about 1/2 way up the east side, its 2 full width lanes, plenty of height, lighted & ventilated. The 2nd is about 2/3 up the east side, and its more of a snow shed - avalanche slope roof. Its also got plenty of height, but is narrower and built right on a sharp curve, so pay attention to the 35 MPH speed warning. This one is the more dangerous tunnel, not because you don't have enough height/width, but because others coming in the opposite direction don't always slow down for that curve inside the snow-shed tunnel and take up more than their half of the road if you meet them in the middle.

Also be aware that the small towns east of the pass along 160, South Fork, Del Norte, Monte Vista, all run speed traps frequently where the 65 MPH limit drops down to 40 or 30 thru the town areas.
